36-guna matching (separate tradition)

Ashtakoota matching between two people comes from the muhurta tradition, not a Phaladeepika chapter — offered here for comparison.

Calculated output: Eight koota scores and the total out of 36.

Positions come from Astravya's modern sidereal engine (Lahiri ayanamsa), not a new certified calculation from this text. Traditional interpretation is not scientific prediction.

What is 36-guna matching? The eight kootas

Online Kundli Milan uses Ashtakoota to compare the two Moon signs and birth Nakshatras. Each koota has its own maximum; together the eight kootas add to 36 points.

This is a traditional comparison, not a scientifically validated marriage prediction. This calculator uses sign-based Vashya and a simplified 4/2/0 Yoni scale; other traditions may score differently.

Kundli Milan questions

Ashtakoota matching has a maximum of 36 points. The eight kootas have caps of 1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 6, 7 and 8, which add to 36. The total is not a percentage chance of a successful marriage.

Both birth dates, times and places determine the Moon signs and Nakshatras. The eight koota scores are calculated from those inputs. A name or date alone does not resolve uncertainty about time and place.

Yes, select ‘Birth time unknown’. The calculation then assumes 12:00 noon. If the Moon sign or Nakshatra changes that day, the actual score may differ. Lagna and Manglik status are unavailable without a birth time.

No. This calculator labels 18 or more traditionally acceptable and 28 or more excellent; those are traditional labels, not validated predictions. Even 36 does not guarantee success, and a low score does not prove failure. Prioritise mutual consent, communication and shared values.

They contribute to the total, but read their individual explanations too. The same Nadi scores 0/8; Bhakoot distances of 2–12, 5–9 or 6–8 score 0/7. Mentioned traditional cancellations do not automatically restore points. These are not medical findings about health or children.

Birth time, time zone, ayanamsha, Nakshatra boundaries and scoring tables can differ. Astravya uses sign-based Vashya and simplified Yoni scoring: same Yoni 4, specified enemy pairs 0, all others 2. Compare the Moon signs and Nakshatras first.

Phaladeepika questions

Ashtakoota 36-guna matching is usually associated with the muhurta literature. Phaladeepika judges marriage from the seventh house, its lord and Venus. We do not claim a verse number.

Tradition attributes it to Mantreshwara; its date is debated.

No. It explains. Charts and matching come from our free engine-based calculators.

Translations and editions divide and title chapters differently; the subject matter stays the same.

What is Phaladeepika?

Phaladeepika is a South Indian predictive astrology text attributed to Mantreshwara. Common editions set it in 28 chapters covering signs, planets, houses, yogas and dasha results.

Reading order

Chapters 1–3: definitions of signs, planets and houses.

Chapters 4–18: vargas, strength, aspects and the twelve houses in turn.

Chapters 19–23: planets in houses, lords in houses, raja, dhana and arishta yogas with cancellation.

Chapters 24–28: Vimshottari dasha, dasha results, longevity and closing.

Marriage and the seventh house

Phaladeepika judges marriage mainly from the seventh house, its lord, Venus and influences on them — a reading inside one chart.

36-guna Ashtakoota matching compares two people's Moon signs and Nakshatras. It comes from a separate muhurta tradition and should not be read as a Phaladeepika chapter. The table below explains it.
